Occupational Therapy

At Adventure Learning Center, we offer comprehensive Occupational Therapy services designed to support children aged 0-12 in achieving independence and success in their daily activities.

Our dedicated occupational therapists (OTs) focus on empowering each child through customized interventions that address their specific strengths and challenges.

Occupational Therapy focuses on building the skills children need to thrive at home, school, and in the community. Our therapists address areas such as:

  • Fine motor skills (grasping, writing, and hand-eye coordination)
  • Gross motor skills (balance, strength, and coordination)
  • Sensory processing (responding appropriately to sensory input)
  • Emotional regulation, coping skills/self-soothing techniques
  • Social skills and peer interactions
  • Feeding and oral-motor development
  • Independence in self-care tasks (dressing, hygiene, etc.)

What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational therapy is a skilled therapy designed to support infants, children, and adolescents in overcoming challenges that impact their ability to engage in daily activities. It focuses on promoting independence, skill development, and participation in daily activities for children experiencing developmental delays, sensory processing difficulties, neurological conditions, or other barriers.

Our OTs incorporate a variety of play-based and age-appropriate activities to develop fine and gross motor skills, sensory processing abilities, emotional regulation skills, and self-care skills. By working closely with families and other professionals, our OTs develop individualized treatment plans that address each child’s unique goals and needs.

Our Approach

At Adventure Learning Center, we believe in a holistic, connection-based approach to occupational therapy that prioritizes regulation and connection over isolated skill-building. Our highly skilled OTs work collaboratively with children and their families to create personalized treatment plans that build on each child’s strengths, address challenges, and support meaningful progress.

Conditions We Treat

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD):
We help children with autism build critical skills in sensory regulation, social interaction, play, and self-care. By tailoring our approach to each child, we address challenges with sensory processing, motor planning, and emotional regulation to support daily participation and learning.
  • Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD):
Children with SPD may struggle to process sensory information, leading to over- or under-responsiveness to sights, sounds, textures, or movement. Our sensory integration strategies help children learn to respond appropriately to sensory input, improving focus, self-regulation, and motor coordination.
  • Developmental Delays:
For children who are not meeting age-appropriate milestones, our therapists address motor, sensory, and self-help skills to bridge developmental gaps. We promote progress in areas such as coordination, fine and gross motor control, play, and self-care tasks.
  • Neurological Conditions:
Our team supports children with conditions affecting the nervous system, such as cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, brain injuries, or genetic syndromes. We focus on improving motor control, strength, and adaptive skills to help children achieve greater independence and functional mobility.
  • Feeding Challenges:
For children with difficulties in eating, chewing, or oral-motor control, we address sensory sensitivities, motor planning, and feeding-related anxieties. Our goal is to support safe and comfortable eating experiences that promote nutrition, growth, and family mealtime participation.
  • Motor Coordination Difficulties:
Whether a child struggles with balance, strength, or hand-eye coordination, we use targeted interventions to build motor planning and control. These skills support activities such as handwriting, dressing, playing, and physical activity.
  • Sensory Integration Deficits:
Sensory challenges can impact a child’s ability to participate in daily routines. By supporting these difficulties, we help children regulate their sensory systems, promoting focus, calm, and successful participation in school, home, and play environments.
